The Importance of Measuring Productivity

Productivity is the lifeblood of any successful organisation. It determines how efficiently resources are utilised, impacts profitability, and shapes the overall competitive edge. Understanding and measuring productivity is not merely a managerial task; it is a critical strategic initiative. In UNBLOCK I explore this concept, offering actionable insights and strategies to improve organisational productivity.

Why Measure Productivity?

  1. Monitor Progress: Continuous measurement allows for monitoring progress over time. It helps in assessing whether implemented strategies are yielding the desired outcomes allowing strategic leaders to review and make necessary adjustments.

  2. Set Realistic Goals: Productivity metrics provide a baseline from which realistic and achievable goals can be set. This ensures that targets are not arbitrary but grounded in actual performance data.

  3. Employee Engagement: When productivity metrics are shared with employees, it can foster a sense of ownership and responsibility. Employees are more likely to be engaged and motivated when they understand how their work contributes to the organisation's goals.

Insights from UNBLOCK

  1. Holistic Approach: Productivity should not be measured in isolation. It is essential to consider the productivity of the whole organisation or system, rather than one or two departments.

  2. The Right Metric: While quantitative metrics such as output per hour and task completion rates are helpful, they do not reflect true productivity which is a financial measure.

I’ll be explaining more about this in the book.  However, if you can’t wait for November, you can get a free productivity calculation of your organisation at this link.

Stay tuned for more insights and tips from UNBLOCK as we count down to the release on 5th November! Don't forget, there's a special Kindle deal available on 4th November!
